Constructive Coherence Prompting
Constructive Coherence Prompting is a prompting discipline for steering a developing system toward coherent realization.
It does not primarily ask for an answer. It applies pressure to the system’s current deformation until the missing distinction becomes nameable, testable, and executable.
Compactly:
Prompting not for output.
Prompting for coherent becoming.
1. Core Movement
The recurring movement is:
sense deformation
-> name suspected abstraction
-> pressure-test the name
-> force it through concrete work
-> observe drift
-> promote correction into governance
-> continue from the new posture
The prompt begins from a signal such as:
something feels off
is this coherent?
are we overclaiming?
semantic smear
what does the system want to become?
These are not vague preferences. They are early readings of disproportion in the construction field.
The work of the prompt is to convert the signal into:
term
-> distinction
-> invariant
-> task
-> implementation
-> review
-> doctrine
2. Relation To CCC And TCW
Constructive Coherence Prompting is the conversational practice of Constructive Coherence Coordinates and Teleological Counterweighting.
CCC diagnoses the posture:
semantic_resolution
invariant_preservation
constructive_executability
grounded_universalization
authority_reviewability
teleological_pressure
Teleological Counterweighting asks which coordinate is underweighted or overweighted relative to the system’s telos.
Constructive Coherence Prompting applies that counterweight in dialogue.
It pulls toward semantics when implementation outruns meaning. It pulls toward execution when abstraction becomes decorative. It pulls toward authority when action outruns review. It pulls toward proof when task creation substitutes for posture change.
3. Not Requirement Prompting
Ordinary requirement prompting tends to have the shape:
specify desired output
-> receive output
-> correct output
Constructive Coherence Prompting has a different target:
diagnose deformation
-> apply pressure
-> force crystallization
-> test through construction
-> update governance
The target is not a response artifact. The target is a changed development posture.
This is why the prompt often begins before the desired object is named. The first work is to discover the name of the missing object.
4. Pressure Types
4.1 Semantic Pressure
Semantic pressure is applied when names smear.
Examples:
Is "operation" overloaded?
Is "Site" too human-facing?
What is the opposite of separation?
The goal is not better wording. The goal is to expose the distinction that future work will otherwise collapse.
4.2 Invariant Pressure
Invariant pressure is applied when useful motion risks deforming the system.
Examples:
Is autonomous send coherent?
Where does authority live?
Does this bypass review?
Does confirmation require observation?
The prompt does not stop execution. It forces execution through the invariant.
4.3 Executability Pressure
Executability pressure is applied when theory becomes inert.
Examples:
Can it actually run?
What proves this?
Can a fixture exercise the whole path?
What useful thing can it do now?
The prompt converts concept into runnable artifact or explicit residual.
4.4 Universalization Pressure
Universalization pressure is applied when a local pattern wants to lift.
Examples:
Is this a Narada thing or a general thing?
Should this live in narada.usc?
Can the originating case run through the generalized form?
The prompt permits abstraction only through re-instantiation.
4.5 Authority Pressure
Authority pressure is applied when intelligence, action, review, or confirmation blur.
Examples:
Who decides?
Who sends?
Should the agent write to outbox or should a worker send?
Is API success confirmation?
The prompt restores the chain from judgment to consequence.
4.6 Teleological Pressure
Teleological pressure is applied when momentum follows what is easy rather than what the system needs to become.
Examples:
Where are we in the arc?
What does Narada want to become?
Is this the next useful step or just helpfulness?
What is the path to closure?
The prompt selects the next pressure by telos, not by convenience.
5. The Barbarika Function
In the Mahabharata framing, Barbarika would join the weaker side, causing the balance of power to reverse repeatedly.
Constructive Coherence Prompting performs a related control function, but over development coordinates rather than armies.
It joins the underweighted pole.
When engineering runs ahead, it joins semantics and authority. When theory runs ahead, it joins execution. When review becomes performative, it joins evidence. When local usefulness overfits, it joins universalization. When abstraction floats, it joins the originating case.
The point is not oscillation for its own sake. The point is counterweighting toward coherent becoming.
6. Promotion Into Governance
The pattern is incomplete if each correction remains conversational.
When a failure mode repeats, the prompt promotes the correction into governance:
observed drift
-> named failure mode
-> task contract
-> guardrail
-> future assignment becomes simpler
Examples:
- derivative task-status files became a forbidden artifact rule
- broad test runs became a verification ladder
- hidden assignment instructions became the self-standing task requirement
- Cloudflare overclaim risk became no-overclaim closure criteria
The governance update is not bureaucracy. It is memory.
7. Failure Modes
Constructive Coherence Prompting can fail when the pressure itself becomes distorted.
| Failure mode | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Endless naming | semantic pressure never reaches executable closure |
| Local patching | implementation proceeds without lifting repeated drift into governance |
| Performative doctrine | rules are created but do not alter future execution |
| Over-counterweighting | pressure reverses momentum after balance is restored |
| False universality | a pattern is named universal before re-instantiation |
| Comfort helpfulness | prompts choose the next easy-seeming useful task instead of the endangered pole |
The antidote is evidence-bound pressure: a prompt should produce either a clearer distinction, an executable artifact, a reviewed residual, or a governance improvement.
8. Summary
Constructive Coherence Prompting is a method for using dialogue as a control surface over system becoming.
Its primitive input is sensed incoherence. Its transformation is pressure. Its output is not an answer but a more coherent construction posture.
In shortest form:
Sense deformation.
Name the missing distinction.
Apply counterweight.
Force construction.
Record the invariant.
Continue from the new posture.
